Responsibilities & Duties
- Conduct initial dental assessments and collect patient medical history
- Perform dental cleanings, including removing plaque, tartar, and stains
- Apply fluoride treatments and dental sealants to protect teeth from decay
- Educate on proper oral hygiene techniques such as brushing and flossing
- Take and develop dental X-rays
- Monitor and record the patient's progress and report findings to the dentist
- Provide nutritional counseling related to oral health
- Manage patient records and dental charts
- Instruct patients on postoperative and general oral health care
Hygienist Qualifications & Skills
- 1+ years of hands-on Hygiene experience
- Proficiency in using dental software, preferably Eaglesoft
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to manage a high-stress environment
- CPR and First Aid certification
- Associate's degree or certificate in Dental Hygiene from an accredited program
- Current state licensure as a Dental Hygienist
- Completion of a board-approved radiology course
- Excellent manual dexterity and attention to detail
- Strong understanding of dental health and prevention strategies
- Ability to work effectively with patients of all ages
- Commitment to continuing education and professional development
- Ability to comply with safety regulations and maintain infection control standards
- Chart the condition of teeth and the overall oral health of the patient
- Sterilize and clean dental tools and medical areas
- Educate patients on proper dental care and oral hygiene
- Provide assistance and support to the Dentist during major operations and procedures
- Complete patient intake examinations
- Create a dental plan that addresses the patient’s financial status and insurance coverage
