Dental Hygienist
Job Description and Duties
Position Overview:
The Dental Hygienist plays a vital role in promoting oral health and providing preventive dental care to patients. This role includes performing dental cleanings, educating patients on proper oral hygiene, and supporting the dentist in delivering high-quality patient care. The hygienist ensures patient comfort, clinical efficiency, and adherence to all infection control and regulatory guidelines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Perform thorough dental cleanings including scaling, root planing, and polishing
· Take and evaluate dental radiographs as needed
· Conduct oral cancer screenings and periodontal charting
· Apply preventive materials such as sealants and fluoride
· Educate patients on proper brushing, flossing, and nutrition to support oral health
· Review patient medical histories and communicate concerns to the dentist
· Document findings and treatments in the patient’s dental record accurately and timely
· Collaborate with the dental team to coordinate care and ensure a seamless patient experience
· Maintain operatory cleanliness and ensure all instruments are properly sterilized
· Comply with all OSHA, HIPAA, and state dental board regulations
