DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The Iredell County Health Department, located in Statesville, NC, is seeking a full-time Dentist to join our team in providing essential dental care to residents of all ages in a public health setting. Our mission is to promote and maintain oral health through education, preventive care, and treatment services—including cleanings, fluoride treatments, fillings, and extractions.
The Dentist will collaborate closely with other members of our dental care team, which includes a temp part-time Dentist, two dental assistants, two dental hygienists, two front office staff, and a Dental Clinic Supervisor. This position focuses exclusively on clinical care. The Dentist will not be responsible for administrative supervision of staff.
OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES, QUALIFICATIONS AND DUTIES: The Dentist will provide comprehensive clinical services in a public health setting. Key responsibilities include:
• Conduct routine dental exams, including oral cancer screenings and diagnostic X-rays
• Diagnose and treat a range of dental conditions such as cavities, gum disease, and tooth decay
• Administer anesthetics to ensure patient comfort during dental procedures
• Perform common dental treatments, including fillings and extractions
• Educate patients about oral hygiene and preventive care practices
• Collaborate with dental hygienists and clinic staff to deliver efficient, high-quality care
• Conduct dental procedures and provide patient care aboard the Mobile Health Unit, expanding access to underserved populations
• Follow strict infection control protocols to maintain a safe and sterile environment
• Stay current with dental advancements through ongoing education and professional development
• Maintain accurate and timely patient records in compliance with clinical and legal standards
• Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Exhibit empathy, professionalism, and strong interpersonal skills to foster positive relationships with patients and colleagues
This is a safety sensitive position.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Required Minimum Training: Candidates must have graduated from an accredited dental program and hold a doctoral degree in either Dental Surgery (DDS) or Dental Medicine (DMD).
Additional Training/Experience: A minimum of one year of clinical experience in the assigned area is preferred but not required.
Equivalent Training and Experience: Substitution of other training or experience is not permitted; formal education requirements must be met.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation: Candidates must hold a current and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in North Carolina. Eligibility to practice must be confirmed through education and experience as approved by the North Carolina Board of Dental Examiners.
WORK SCHEDULE:
This is a full-time position based on a 32-hour workweek- Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with a 30-minute lunch break each day, at the Statesville Iredell County Health Department location. The Dental Clinic is closed on Fridays.
During communicable disease outbreaks, disasters or special clinics this position may be assigned as needed to work before 8:00 a.m. after 5:00 p.m. or on weekends.
SALARY RANGE: $131,371.24 - $204,939.12 (Grade 247 E)
